Importance of Parijat in Hindu Culture

According to the various Hindu Scriptures, Bhagwat Mahapuran, Mahabharata, Shiva Purana and Vishnu Purana, at the time of Samudra Manthan, this Parijat tree appeared and was offered to Devtas. This tree was placed in the garden of Devaloka and was helping in reducing the stress of DevKanyas and Apsaras

According to Bhagwat Mahapuran and Vishnu Purana, Satyabhama was getting jealous of Rukmini, as she was his first wife, incarnation of goddess Lakshmi and the queen consort. She had a feeling that Krishna loves Rukmini more than me and hence gave her most of the rights.

Hence, once when Narakasura attacked Bhu-loka after defeating Devraj Indra and had stolen his mother Dev Mata Aditi’s precious earrings. While Krishna was getting prepared to have a battle with Narakasuar, Satyabhama asked him to participate in this battle. Krishna agreed on this and both went for the face off with Narakasura. At the end of the war, Narkasura attacked Krishna and made him unconscious. Then at that time, Satyabhama moved forward and killed Narakasura. Both of them took back the Dev Mata Aditi’s earrings and freed 16000 girls who were later married to Shree Krishna.

Then Shree Krishan and Satyabhama went to DevaLok and returned those earrings to Dev mata Aditi. In their path, Satyabhama got a very enriching fragrance and asked Devraj Indra’s wife regarding this.

Shachi then replied that this is the fragrance of the divine tree Pariajt and just by smelling the fragrance of its flower, that lady will always be young and healthy. Then Satyabhama asked if she could own one, but DevRaj Indra replied back saying, once Lord Shiva asked for this divine Parijat tree, but I refused as this tree is only made to enhance the glory of Indra loka/ Deva loka

While both Shree Krishan and Satyabhana were returning to Prithivi loka/ Bhu-loka, Indra secretly gave one Parijat flower to Shree Krishna and he gave that flower to Rukmini. After a few days, Dev muni Narada came to meet Satyabhama and said that Krishna had given Parijat flower to Rukmini which was given by Indra as only Rukhmini is the queen consort. After this, Satyabhama demanded Shree Krishna to bring Parijat tree to show that he only loves her.

Again while
Pandavas were in exile in Kintoor Village, near Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh with Mata Kunti, she asked Krishna to help her with the Parijat tree which he has in his garden. She will offer these sacred flowers in Lord Shiva’s worship. And from that time, this sacred Parijat/ Harsingar tree is situated there.
