Parijat plant/ Harsingar/ Night Jasmine

In Indian culture, there are many plants which are related to the Sanatan culture or broadly known as Hindu culture. Parijat/ Harsingar or Night- Flowering Jasmine is one of them. It’s believed that this is one of the divine flowers, which has been brought by Shree Krishna on the demand of his wife Satyabhama. Only this Parijat tree is the favorite amongst all the Devatas.

By keeping just one Hasinga plant in our garden or in house, it will fill your house and it’s nearing environment with a saintly enriching fragrance, as inflorescence happens only at night, in the absence of sunlight. Night- flower Jasmine has many numerous benefits for the human body, especially for aged people and children. Below are the few:  

  1. Increase the Concentration: If a student lacks concentration during studies or has frequent mood swings, like for one day he says to become a Fighter Pilot and the other day Doctor, and if they pursue an aggressive nature, give one leaf of Parijat every morning and make them eat with water. This will definitely help to remain focus, as the leaf of Parijat helps in purifying the blood, which again helps in good blood circulation and oxygen flow in the brain.


  1. Relief in Arthritis, Sciatica, Muscle Pain, Gastric, Sugar level, Strengthens heart functions: In ancient age, most aged people along with the person who stays in coastal areas and females, used to experience pain and inflammation in their joints. 

However, below home remedy can be used to cure in early stages.

  • Take 4-5 leaves of Parijat and wash it with warm turmeric water

  • Crush all the leaves and boil them in 2 cups of water till it remains with 1 cup of water 

  • Have this drink empty stomach every morning

  • Soon you will see the relief in pain

This drink also helps in reducing the Gastric problem, initial stage of Sciatica, Muscle pain, regulates the Sugar level in the body, strengthens heart functions and regulates the viscosity of the blood.


  1. Relief in Dry cough and Sore throat: Many small kids have problem of dry cough and it may last for many days. Effective Home Remedy for this is mentioned below: 

  • Crush 4-5 leaves of Night-flowering Jasmine

  • Mix honey into it and give thrice a day to children

  • Soon you will see the relief in dry cough. This paste also helps in relieving sore throat


  1. Reduces the negative energies: If there are frequent fights or thoughts are not in lined between the family members, then keep a small plant of Parijat. The right place in the back of your house.
    Note: It should not be the east or northern direction of the house. 

    1. This will help in increasing the positive energy in the house

    2. It’s fragrance helps in reducing the stress level and anger, which again helps you to be confident at work and home too
