Plumeria

In India, commonly known as Champa. Do you know the scientific name of Champa is Plumeria and it is one of the genus of Apocynaceae family and can be confused with Oleander. It is commonly known as frangipani in most of the tropical regions. It has almost 20 species with very attractive flowers in each. Plumeria is also found in various sizes from a small shrub to a well grown tree, giving us very enriching and fresh flowers. 

It is super easy to maintain in our garden, that might keep growing till our next generation. This small tree or shrub is also known as the “Tree of life” because it continues to blossom even when it is cut. Ancient Indians even believe that the tree represents the infinite life of our soul.


Let's have a look on how this beautiful plant and it’s flowers offer us apart from increasing the beauty of our gardens. Starting from Plumeria oil to it’s seeds, leaves and flowers, are really beneficial for keeping our body and mind healthy. However, apart from Plumeria oil, do consult a good Herbalist for the use of its leaves and seed

Plumeria oil:

We will usually get the Frangipani/ Plumeria oil easily in any organic online stores. However, we can still prepare it’s oil at our home with no cost. For this we need to get 500 ml of either coconut oil or olive oil or castor oil, as these are really light in texture, and boil with a handful of Plumeria flowers (you can choose any kind of Plumeria species) for half an hour to 45 mins. This will ensure, to extract all essentials from the flowers into the oil.

Benefits of Plumeria oil:

  • It is antibiotic in nature: 

    • Plumeria flowers have very important compounds that have medicinal properties like, fulvoplumierin, triterpenoid Amirin and lupeol

    • Presented in these substances are anti-inflammatory (Lowering any kind of inflammation), analgesic (pain-relieving), and antipyretic (fever-lowering) effects

    • These beneficial contents can also prevent heat stroke and reduce menstrual pain

  • Moisturizer: Its oil extracted from flowers acts as astringent and moisturizer when applied on face and body. It rejuvenates the skin. Application of Plumeria oil on dry skin, or the skin parts that always have a dry tendency, helps the skin to become soft and supple.

  • For smooth feet:  Due to its astringent property, Plumeria oil also helps us to return back your soft feet. All you have to do is to apply the prepared oil every day on the cracked feet before going to bed

  • Lowers headache: Plumeria flowers’ extract has inflammatory properties that can help lower down headache up to the most severe one

  • Plumeria oil is like a bliss for relieving muscular pain and back pain

  • Plumeria oil helps in maintaining a healthy body with antioxidants. It’s oil is filled with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that helps in maintaining a healthy body  by eliminating cancer-causing free radicals and harmful toxins from the tissues. 

  • Stress reliever: Plumeria oil when inhaled before going to bed, helps us have a good and sound sleep. It’s essential oil has sedative effects that will calm our mind, reduces anxiety and relieves stress

  • Reducing warts

    • With the help of Plumeria leaves, we can cure warts very easily and naturally

    • For this all we have to do is to take a sap of Plumeria flowers using cotton and then apply on the warts

  • Works as stimulant: It’s oil works as a stimulant that helps in maintaining health conditions of nervus, circulatory and other body systems

Leaves:

  • Curing Ulcers: Ulcers really can affect our daily routine activities. To treat them with Plumeria, we have to clean it’s leaves and apply on the affected parts with either coconut oil, olive oil or castor oil 

  • Stick the leaves on the body parts that have ulcers. Do this until the abscess disappears.

  • The poultice of heated leaves is helpful for any type of swellings on the body

  • For reducing asthma, its leaves can be used as cigarettes to inhale


Roots:

  • Helps in reducing Gonorrhea: To cure Gonorrhea, we need to take 1 piece of root, wash it well and boil it in two cups of the water. Wait until half of the water evaporates. Drink the herbal water once a day

Nerium oleander - Commonly known as Oleander or Nerium. It is the only species which is currently classified in the genus Nerium, belonging to the family Apocynaceae.
